Therapy Styles
Therapy is unique and personal. Something that can determine whether therapy can work for you or not is the relationship you have with your therapist. It’s important to work with someone you’re comfortable with. If you’re interested in counseling, feel free to contact me for a consultation to see if we would be a good match/fit.
Counseling and Psychotherapy
Counseling and Psychotherapy is the foundation of all treatment styles. I offer a warm, compassionate, strength based approach that is client centered and educational. We will examine your inner conflicts, thought patterns, and reactions/behavior to find solutions that will improve communication, coping skills, insight and strengthen self-esteem.
Dance/Movement Therapy
Dance/Movement Therapy uses movement and the body as the means of expression. It’s a holistic approach to healing that integrates mind, body and spirit. We’ll work together in a safe, comfortable space to express what words cannot. You may be able to see how changes in the body may reflect changes in the mind or vice versa that deepens the meaning of your growth and therapeutic experience.
Creative Art Therapies
Creative Art Therapies (art making, writing, storytelling, music, theatre) uses different creative methods to access feelings and express oneself in a novel way. This approach can allow you to communicate without words and translate new and adaptive ways to integrate meaning. The creative art therapies can offer a rich experience that enhances counseling.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of bringing awareness to the mind and body through different techniques and tools. In sessions I will educate and teach you different strategies of mindfulness that you can use outside of therapy that can help influence the ways you notice your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in a nonjudgmental way.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (CBT and DBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (CBT and DBT) is a style of therapy that examines the relationship between thought, behavior and action. We will work together to recognize and change old ways of thinking and learned behaviors to find better ways of coping and responding to stress, anxieties, fears, and discomfort.
12 Step Models
12 Step Models can be valuable whether you are in recovery or considering it. The 12 steps model is taken and adapted from many anonymous programs and when combined with individual therapy can enhance recovery to be more accessible, integrated, and whole.
Play Therapy
Play Therapy allows children to express themselves when they do not have the verbal language to talk about their thoughts and feelings. Toys, sand tray, storytelling, and the creative arts can represent the words and play represents the language. I will help your child learn adaptive behaviors to work through their emotional experiences, nurturing strength, resilience, and healing.
